Cathedral Falls, WV

We visited Cathedral Falls in West Virginia on our way home from a beach vacation in North Carolina.  It was a little out of the way so we didn't get to explore the rest of the area.  There are several more falls down by Hawks Nest State Park.

This waterfall was on the roadside of US 60.  There was a small parking lot.  We went at the end of the summer and there was still a good amount of water. 

Lanterman's Mill Falls, Ohio

Lanterman Falls are located in Youngstown, Ohio.  Here is an address to help you find it.

This was a nice little stop for us on our way home from Geneva on the Lake.

She-Qua-Ga Falls

She-Qua-Ga Falls is also in Montoursville.  You go to Main Street and drive all the way to the end where it will intersect with Genesee street.  Make a left and find  spot to park. You walk between 2 old (but pretty) houses and see the falls.  Don't worry you are not trespassing, there are several signs for the falls.

Eagle Cliff Falls

After going to Watkins Glen make the short drive to Eagle Cliff Falls.  It is is Havana Glen Park in Montour Falls. If you show them your receipt or ticket from watkins glen you don't have to the pay the small fee.


Go past the picnic area and you will see the trail.  It is pretty straight forward walk to the waterfall.  There weren't a lot of people there early in the morning.  You can swim in the falls if you want.

Also in the town of Montour falls is Aunt Sara's falls.  It is a roadside fall that you will pass leaving Watkins Glen and heading to Eagle Cliff Falls.  You can see them at the intersection of Ayres St. and Route 14.

Watkins Glen Waterfalls

Watkins Glen was our favorite part of Western New York trip.  It is just beautiful.  The trails aren't really trails but walkways with stone paths and bridges.  It is very pretty.

Once again I am having trouble uploading a few pictures so some are missing on this post.  

When you enter you can see Sentry Waterfall right under the Sentry bridge.   I knew right away I was going to like this place.

 Next you will see Minnehaha Falls.

 One of the main falls will be the Cavern Cascade.  It is the tallest one.  You follow the path and you walk behind it!


You go thru a tunnel and past a bridge and can see Diamond Falls.

After another tunnel is Central Cascade.  It looks pretty with the bridge.


Next you pass under Rainbow falls


and pass Rainbow falls cascade.

There are also 2 other cascades upper and lower cascade


Continue on and see Pluto falls and Mile Marker falls.

The path ended on our trip due to a landslide so we did not climb jacob's ladder and see the top of the park.

If you can check out this park.  It was the highlight of our trip.

And go early it gets crowded.  We were by ourselves for the walk up but on the way back it was getting busy. 

Stonybrook State Park Waterfalls

We stopped at Stonybrook State park on our way from Letchworth State Park to Watkins Glen.  It got dark so we didn't get to finish seeing everything here but I really enjoyed this park.  There were tons of families here to camp.

There is trail that follows the gorge.  It is very nice.  In some areas they have nice little bridges for you to cross.

You first see the small waterfall above when you start the hike.

Then you encounter lower falls.


The trail starts to go up and you will come to middle falls.

The trail isn't so great after this and goes up to the camp sites.  Upper falls is on the way but you can't see it from the trail.  We had to go off the trail.  It wasn't hard to figure out because the water is right there.  Just a little climbing and manuvering was needed.

There are many smaller unnamed waterfalls near the swimming area also. 

Letchworth Waterfalls

Letchworth State park is an awesome park in Western New York. It is literally in the middle of no where.

We visited in the early summer of 2008.  We were driving on roads with houses and our gas was slowly getting towards empty.  It was nerve racking.  When we finally got tot he park area we stopped for gas and it was an old pump that did not take credit cards.  Ha ha.

This park has 3 main waterfalls:  Upper, Middle and Lower.

We visited the lower falls first.  Just park in the lower falls parking lot.  Trail is to your right.  Follow until it splits.  We then stayed to the right to get this view of the falls.  It is very misty in this area.


Middle falls.  We went to Inspiration point to get this view of Middle Falls.  You are pretty high up at the is point and you can see Upper falls in the distance.

We also just hiked down from lower falls and went to the small platform next to the falls.  But was very sunny and very misty.  

To reach Upper falls we took the paved trail from Middle Falls.  It was hard to get a good picture as the sun was very harsh.


Letchworth has other falls we did not see.  This was one of our first waterfall trips and we were newbies.  So we missed:
